In the UAAP Season 84 women’s volleyball tournament, which took place at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City on Tuesday night, May 10, Adamson earned their first victory by defeating Ateneo in a five-set match with scores of 23-25, 25-19, 25-15, and 25-12.
After the Lady Falcons avenged their first set defeat with a smooth run in the second and third frames before putting on the gas in the fourth, it propelled them to a record of 1-2, while the Blue Eagles plummeted to a form of 0-3 and a deeper hole.
May Ann Nuique hammered down 12 attacks and two blocks to earn 15 points for Adamson, while Trisha Genesis topped the team in scoring with 17 points, all of which achieve via spikes.
In addition to her four service aces, Lucille Almonte led the Adamson Lady Falcons with 12 points in the scoring column.
“Pagod na kami pero worth it naman lagot ng pagod,” said Lerma Giron, the head coach of the Adamson volleyball team. “Of course, this will be a challenging task for us. This morning, I told the team that we still have one day left to win this game because many people on the Adamson roster are eligible to participate, including the coaching staff, and we want to win this game. “
After taking an early 15-5 lead in the fourth set, the Adamson Lady Falcons could break away from their competition for good and eventually won the match.
After Adamson’s run finished off with an off-the-block hit by Genesis, the distance between the two teams expanded to 14, and they never looked back from that point on.
The Eagles eventually ran out of steam and committed repeated assault blunders, making it impossible for the reigning champs to come back from such a large deficit.
Faith Nisperos continued to lead the Eagles in scoring with 16 points, which she accumulated with 11 hits and a service ace. Vannie Gandler contributed 11 points, all of which came from attacks.
